Low-floor trams start running to Imanta

As of today, June 5, low-floor trams start to run to Imanta by the new tram route No. 1   (see map in the Annex), and the first tram from the low-floor trams delivered to Riga this April made its first symbolic run.

We remind that in April 2016 a purchase agreement was signed for the delivery of 20 new low-floor trams. Today “Rīgas satiksme” runs a fleet of 27 low-floor trams, which serve tram routes No. 1, 6 and 11. The remaining 19 low-floor trams are due to be delivered this year.

The new low-floor trams do not differ visually from those already running by tram routes No. 6 and 11.  Based on the experience and employees’ recommendations given in the process of preparing technical documentation, the trams’ technical solutions, for example, bogies design, lubrication of wheels, coupling, etc., have been improved.

The following changes in public transport traffic take effect on June 5:

  • New tram route No. 1 „Imanta - Jugla” is launched to run on working days and holidays.
  • Tram  route No 11 is extended to Ausekļa Street and will be named „Ausekļa Street – Mežaparks”.
  • A new schedule of tram route No. 3„Jugla – Ķengarags” is introduced on working days. When going from Jugla to Ķengarags, the tram will go along Krišjāņa Barona Street, Radio Street, 13th January Street, Prāgas Street and further by the route. Stop „Aspazijas Boulevard” will be replaced by stop „Railway Terminal Square”. There will be no changes in the direction of Jugla.
  • The schedules of tram No. 4 are  changed on working days and holidays.
  • The schedules of tram No. 6 are  changed on working days and holidays.
  • Schedules of tram route  No. 10 will are changed for workdays and holidays.
  • We also inform that monthly tickets for one route, registered until June 5 for the first time on tram routes No. 4 and 6, are valid on tram route No. 1 without registration until the monthly ticket’s expiry date.
