In October, ticket controllers inspected 22 010 public transport vehicles and discharged 1022 passengers from a vehicle for travelling without a face mask

In the period from October 1 to 31, the ticket controllers of “Rīgas satiksme” performed 22 010 inspections of public transport, out of which 2322 inspections were performed together with the Riga municipal police officers. In October, 4632 passengers were fined for travelling without a ticket. Whereas, 1022 passengers were discharged from public transport for travelling without a face mask or its incorrect use.

Ticket controllers of “Rīgas satiksme” do not only check the tickets in public transport, but also pay close attention to the fact whether passengers use mouth and nose covers correctly during the trip. If during the inspection it is detected that a passenger has no face mask, the ticket controller shall first tell the passenger that the mask must be used and ask him/her to put it on – covering both the nose and the chin. If the passenger does not react to the request, at the nearest stop he/she will be asked to get off the transport vehicle.

“Rīgas satiksme” has been taking the following measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19:

• all doors of public transport vehicles, except the front doors, are opened at each stop;

• at all final points, thorough ventilation of buses, trolleybuses and trams is carried out;

• passenger flow is being continuously monitored, so that it does not exceed 50% of the passenger compartment occupancy;

• every evening, upon entering the park or depot, all transport vehicles are desinfected.

“Rīgas satiksme” is grateful to every passenger for observing the safety measures! Being understanding and observing them responsively – with joint efforts, we will be able to return to normal daily life as soon as possible.
