“Rīgas satiksme” launches information campaign about public transport development in Riga
The history of public transport in Riga started more than a 100 years ago. “Rīgas satiksme” is launching a new campaign to inform about the century-long development of public transport in Riga, which has become comfortable, modern and easily accessible.
As of August 17, three types of posters featuring the most important stages in the development of trams, trolleybuses and buses until nowadays will be seen in trams, trolleybuses and buses. Riga has received new low-floor trams annually in recent years, and one can hardly imagine that there were times when old bus bodies were mounted on tram bogies because of the lack of the rolling stock. Some people cannot imagine nowadays, when Riga can be proud of its modern buses, that some twenty years ago engines of old “Ikaruses” never stopped working in cold winter nights because of fears that they would not be restarted, and in 1970s trolleybuses were coupled together because of the lack of drivers.
Nowadays there are 84 tram, trolleybus and bus routes in Riga covering the whole city, and passengers can rely on regular public transport services. “Rīgas satiksme” is gradually renovating the rolling stock to provide a more comfortable transportation to everybody.
