"Rīgas satiksme" tests new bus seat design

Continuing its search for a practical seat solution that could be introduced in the future across the "Rīgas satiksme" public transport fleet, the company has installed new-design seats with light padding and a polyurethane coating in two buses, numbered 77588 and 77631. The aim is to find seats that are not only easy and quick to maintain, but also provide passengers with greater comfort during their daily journeys.

Previously, in 2025, seats made of a durable textured material were tested in one bus. According to passenger survey results, the majority of respondents said they would prefer this type of solution; however, one of the most frequently mentioned drawbacks was the firmness of the seats. At the same time, passengers highly appreciated the practicality of these seats, as it is easier to see whether a seat is clean, while the material is also simpler for vehicle cleaning staff to maintain.

The solution currently being tested in the buses combines the practical features appreciated in the previous trial with increased passenger comfort. The light padding makes the seats softer, while the polyurethane coating ensures easier maintenance and helps keep the seats clean.

"Rīgas satiksme" invites passengers travelling on buses equipped with the new-design seats to share their experience and provide feedback.
