A market study for the purchase of 120 buses is announced
To ensure the sustainable development of public transport and to meet the objective approved in the medium-term strategy, Rīgas satiksme announces a market study for the purchase of 18 metre-long buses, 60 of which are electric buses and 60 – diesel buses. The purpose of the market study is to identify possible delivery times, technical solutions and indicative costs. On the basis of the results of the market study, a procurement procedure will be prepared and launched.
The purpose of the market study is to obtain comprehensive information on new technological solutions offered by the automotive industry, including hybrid drive options, various active and passive safety systems, autonomous driving elements, remote diagnostics and other solutions that could be applied to the Riga city public transport. At the same time, delivery times and indicative costs will be clarified to ensure the preparation of the procurement documentation.
During the bus procurement market study, Rīgas satiksme will also pay special attention to solutions that promote more efficient and sustainable operation of vehicles. Alternative solutions for fabric upholstery in the seats will be assessed, such as more durable and easier to maintain materials that improve cabin hygiene, facilitate daily cleaning and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Efficient maintenance is also an important factor – buses should be designed for quick, easy and less resource-intensive maintenance. At the same time, the market study will assess solutions that improve road safety for drivers and passengers, as well as for other road users.
In the market study, Rīgas satiksme will approach a wide range of potential suppliers – both international bus manufacturers and official dealers within and outside the European Union. We look forward to a strong response and a range of innovative offers that meet today's technological, environmental and urban mobility requirements.

Currently, Rīgas satiksme has more than 400 buses in its fleet, a significant number of which are older than the optimum 12 years of operation. Some vehicles have been in service for 20 years or more, which significantly increases their maintenance costs and reduces their efficiency.
