As part of performance of the previous agreements, 88 new generation buses will be delivered to “Rīgas satiksme”
Within the framework of the outstanding agreement concluded between “Rīgas satiksme” and “Solaris Bus&Coach” in 2013 and the additional agreement of 2018 on the delivery of buses, “Rīgas satiksme” will receive a total of 88 new buses. The company’s board has maintained regular communication to ensure that the Polish manufacturer delivers the buses in accordance with the incurred liabilities. Currently, eight buses are already on the way from the manufacturer to Latvia. “Rīgas satiksme” continues to gradually renovate its bus fleet with the new generation transport vehicles, which are not only more convenient for the passengers but are also more environmentally friendly. With the latest delivery, “Rīgas satiksme” will be able to replace the older buses, which have been used in passenger transportation for almost twenty years, with the new ones.
The Board member of the company Andris Lubāns emphasizes: “The public transport fleet is gradually being renovated. Around 400 buses are currently involved in the passenger transportation, and almost 250 of them have served at least two lifetimes. The plans of “Rīgas satiksme” rolling stock renewal envisage gradual replacement of the vehicles with the new ones that comply with the environmental requirements and the current understanding of the qualitative service. It should be noted that over the last years and for the future, sustainability has played an important role. The delivery of these vehicles is important to us because they will ensure a more comfortable transportation, reducing the noise level and vibration in the passenger compartment. Furthermore, for the convenience of passengers and drivers, the new buses are equipped with a pull-out platform and climate control device, ensuring comfortable trips both in summer and in winter. Renovation of the fleet will not only improve its technical condition, but will also help to reduce the bus operating costs and the quantity of polluting emissions.”
There are several stages in the receipt of the new vehicles. When the buses have been successfully delivered to “Rīgas satiksme” bus fleets, before they are assigned to regular passenger transportation, a number of important preparations must be made, for example, various types of inspections and additional equipment are arranged for. Buses also perform test rides. If there are no significant delays in these processes, the first delivered buses can carry passengers already in the nearest month.
All 88 buses are 18 meters long and have low floor. One bus has 37 seats and 137 standing spaces. Currently, the average age of the bus fleet is almost 14 years, however, with the delivery of these buses it will be reduced to 9.5 years.
