Construction of hydrogen filling station started in Riga
The hydrogen filling station is built within project “H2Nodes” and will be available to both public transport and public use. After filling hydrogen for 7-10 minutes, electric hydrogen buses may run 300-400 km, trolleybuses without wires – up to 200 km, and passenger cars some 600 km (their filling takes 3-5 minutes).
“Rīgas satiksme” is a coordinator of the international “H2Nodes” project, which is implemented not only in Riga, but also in Pärnu (Estonia) and Arnhem (Netherlands). As part of the project, “Rīgas satiksme” will receive 10 trolleybuses, in which a power reserve is ensured by oxidising hydrogen in fuel cells. Switching over to hydrogen as an alternative fuel and energy carrier in vehicles ensures a more efficient use of primary energy resources and furthers the implementation of exhaust-free transport.
The costs of the project are planned to reach EUR 16.1 M, of which 50% will be co-funded by the EU.
