From October 1, “Rīgas satiksme” will simplify the system of penalties for travelling in public transport without tickets

In order to make penalties for travelling in public transport without a ticket simpler and more comprehensible for the passenger, from October 1, the contractual penalty system for the use of public transport without a valid ticket will be changed. Although the penalty system will be simplified, “Rīgas satiksme” encourages passengers to register each trip instead of paying a penalty.

Amounts of contractual penalties for travelling without a valid ticket from October 1:

  • If a passenger has not purchased a travel ticket and the contractual penalty is paid on-site –  the amount of the contractual penalty will be 15 eur instead of the previous 20 eur;
  •  
  • If a passenger has not purchased a travel ticket, but for payment of the contractual penalty an invoice is issued – the amount of the contractual penalty will be 30 instead of the previous 30 to 50 eur;
  • If a passenger has not registered in the public transport vehicle the already started one-month or time ticket, or the e-ticket with a 100% discount, but the contractual penalty is paid on-site – the amount of the contractual penalty will remain 3 eur as before;
  • If a passenger has not registered in the public transport vehicle the already started one-month or time ticket, or the e-ticket with a 100% discount, but for payment of the contractual penalty an invoice is issued – the amount of the contractual penalty will be 5 eur instead of the previous 5 to 30 eur.
