Public Transport Service Reorganization in Dārziņi from 6 July to Provide More Frequent Connections

From 6 July, a new public transport service organization will be introduced in the Dārziņi neighbourhood. As a result, Bus Route 18 will become a feeder service connecting passengers to the “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub and will operate every day at 12–15-minute intervals, compared with the current 35-45-minute intervals on weekdays and 60-minute intervals on weekends.

At the “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub, passengers will be able to transfer to tram and trolleybus services, which on weekdays will operate towards the city centre every 2-5 minutes. The hub will also provide convenient connections to bus routes serving Purvciems, Mežciems, Jugla, and Sarkandaugava. Starting in September, selected trips on Bus Route 18 will be extended to Prūšu Street and Latgales Street, making it easier for students to travel to and from educational institutions in the Ķengarags neighbourhood.

Under the new arrangements, Bus Route 18 will serve as a feeder route linking Dārziņi with the “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub. Within Dārziņi, the route will operate as a one-way circular service (clockwise), ensuring evenly spaced departures throughout the neighbourhood while maintaining a level of public transport accessibility comparable to the current service.

This means passengers will no longer need to plan their daily activities as closely around the timetable. In many cases, they will be able to leave for the bus stop up to 30 minutes later than before and still arrive at their destination close to their preferred arrival time.

As part of the changes, the current Bus Route 15 will be renumbered as Route 45. This solution has been chosen to avoid confusion between Trolleybus Route 15 and Bus Route 15 at the “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub.

The “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub will bring together Tram Routes 7 and 14, Trolleybus Route 15, and Bus Routes 31, 45, and 49 in a single location. Transfers between the feeder service and other public transport routes will be organized on the same platform, eliminating the need for passengers to walk additional distances when changing services.

Changes are also planned for Bus Route 31. The route will operate between Jugla and the “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub and will be rerouted via Stirnu Street in the Purvciems neighbourhood. This adjustment will improve public transport accessibility in a more densely populated area that includes educational institutions, shops, and other important everyday destinations.

Bus Route 45 will likewise operate between Jugla and the “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub. Both Bus Routes 31 and 45 will maintain service frequencies comparable to those currently in place.

To ensure convenient travel towards the city centre after the introduction of the new arrangements, additional early-morning departures will be added to the weekend timetable of Trolleybus Route 15.

In addition to improving public transport accessibility, the changes will also reduce noise and air pollution in the Dārziņi neighbourhood, as Bus Route 18 will be operated exclusively by electric buses. To support these services, a fast-charging station has been installed at the “Ķengarags” Mobility Hub.
