Highlights of 2025

New Tram Routes

To improve tram connections and further develop the public transport network, on May 1 we launched a new tram route No. 14, connecting Iļģuciems with Ķengarags. Route No. 2 was extended to Mīlgrāvis and now operates under a new number – No. 8 “Mīlgrāvis – Tapešu iela”. On weekends, some trams operate on the section “Stacijas laukums – Tapešu iela” and are marked as No. 8a.

Design Competition for the reconstruction of Trolleybus Depot No. 2

A design competition was announced to obtain an architecturally and urbanistically high-quality solution for a modern and energy-efficient trolleybus depot. Nine proposals were submitted, and three winning entries were selected. Cooperation will continue with their authors to develop the construction project and ensure architectural supervision.

Support for the Song and Dance Festival

During the XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival, our contribution was truly invaluable. The company’s team provided transport for participating groups to rehearsals and concerts, took care of traffic planning, vehicle availability, and ensured a safe and smooth flow of transportation throughout the entire festival week. It was an intense and continuous collaboration involving the entire "Rīgas satiksme" team, and without this support, the festival would not have been possible.

New Substation in Mežaparks

The new building features a contemporary design that blends harmoniously with the surrounding environment. Its façade is clad in sustainable materials, while the interior is equipped with modern technology that allows dispatchers to monitor the substation’s operations remotely and in real time. This project is particularly special, as after a break of more than 40 years during which no new substations were built, this is already the second one constructed entirely from scratch in less than two years.

Extension of Tram Line No. 7 Is Progressing

Most of the planned construction works within the Tram Line No. 7 extension project have been completed: a transport interchange hub has been built, tracks have been installed, and a bicycle path and roadways have been constructed, along with other necessary infrastructure works. This ensures steady progress of the project, allowing tram services to start operating on the new section in 2026.

New Customer Service Centre at "Akropole Alfa"

A new customer service centre has been opened at the "Akropole Alfa" shopping and entertainment centre, bringing our services closer to customers in their everyday routines. It replaces the previous customer service centre located at Brīvības gatve 384B.

New Payment Accounting and Control System Introduced in Parking Areas

The new system provides convenient and secure payment options for customers, while also enabling flexible management of paid parking areas across the city. It ensures data exchange with national and municipal information systems, making the service more transparent and efficient.

Testing Practical Seating Solutions

To evaluate seating options for future bus purchases, we installed plastic seats in one bus for testing purposes in autumn. We assessed their ease of maintenance ourselves and invited passengers to share their feedback. The seats were recognized as practical and easy to clean; however, in winter they proved to be colder and less comfortable. Testing of alternative seating solutions is also planned.

New Electric Buses

At the beginning of summer, an additional 17 new electric buses were delivered and put into operation. They are equipped with enclosed driver cabins, camera systems replacing traditional mirrors, and modern safety technologies, including a forward collision warning system and side blind-spot radars.

Fast-Charging Stations for Electric Buses

In October, the first fast-charging station structure was installed at Bus Depot No. 6. A total of seven charging points will be available across Riga, allowing electric buses to recharge their batteries in approximately 15 minutes. This marks an important step forward in the development of sustainable mobility.

World Tram Drivers’ Championship

Tram drivers Aurika and Oļegs represented Latvia and the Baltic States for the first time at the World Tram Drivers’ Championship in Vienna. Competing among teams from 25 countries, they achieved 10th place, successfully completing unusual challenges and driving trams characteristic of different cities.

App Improvements

Previously, the app allowed users to purchase code-based tickets and view public transport schedules and real-time movements. Over the past year, several improvements have been introduced, bringing all services together in one place. Users can now purchase tickets, track routes and arrival times, and pay for parking directly in the app. These enhancements make everyday travel even more convenient by providing access to all essential services on a single platform.

Reconstruction of Tram Depot No. 5

This year, Tram Depot No. 5 has undergone major transformations. The building constructed in 1963 was dismantled, and a new, modern depot building meeting today’s standards was built in its place. At the same time, the historic building was restored and adapted for the full technical maintenance of low-floor trams. The construction works progressed at a very intensive pace, and most of them have already been completed. All construction activities were carried out while ensuring uninterrupted support for tram operations.
