    A new method of payment in public transport has been introduced - a code ticket. It allows you to pay for trips online with your smartphone. To use a code ticket, you need to have a mobile application installed on your smartphone.

    All low-floor trams intended for the last delivery have been received, which allows full transportation of passengers by low-floor trams on tram routes No. 1 and No. 11. Currently, there are 106 tram trains in “Rīgas satiksme” tram fleet: 46 of them are low-floor and the remaining 60 are old-type trams; thus, almost 50% of the total number of trams are low-floor trams.

    In March, the results of the first year of operation of the hydrogen station were summarized. In the first year of operation, the hydrogen station produced over 11 000 kg of hydrogen. The hydrogen station is currently operating at part load and has a much higher capacity. All 10 of the company’s hydrogen trolleybuses are refilled daily. “Solaris hydrogen buses” tested at the beginning of the year in Jelgava and Riga are also filled at the station. The hydrogen station started operating in early 2020.

    “Rīgas satiksme” received a silver category award of the Sustainability Index organized by the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (InCSR). The Sustainability Index is a strategic management tool that measures the risk and process management principles of organizations according to the internationally accepted methodology standards.

    “Rīgas satiksme” received a silver award in the competition “The safest company’s vehicle fleet 2021” in the category “The safest passenger carrier”. Andris Lubāns, the company’s Board member, is pleased with the award, because “Rīgas satiksme” participated in this competition for the first time, “This year’s motto was “The ABC of Safe Traffic - Automobile. Business. Man”, and the evaluation of the passenger carriers focused on how companies take preventive measures to reduce the number of road traffic accidents. The award means that our contribution is well appreciated.”

    A new concept of payment for public transport tickets and services has been developed, a market research of its implementation possibilities has been carried out and a procurement is being developed. It is expected that passengers will be able to pay for the trip online with both bank payment cards and smartphones.

    Reconstruction plan for the trolleybus park No. 2 has been developed. This park was opened in November 29, 1968 and is located on a plot of land of 55 000 square meters. At present, the length of the trolleybus fleet catenaries in single-track valuation is six kilometers.

    Reconstruction plan for the tram depot No. 5 has been developed. The main, or Alexander Gate depot (formerly - the tram depot No. 1) was opened in 1901. Its total area is 39 352 square meters, the total length of the track is 5 811,5 meters of single track.

    With the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the Riga electric tram, the retro wagon has acquired a new design with historical photographs on the side panels. With the exhibition on the tram changes over 120 years and the history of the depot building located in tram depot No. 4 the company participated in the international cultural event - the European Cultural Heritage Days.

    “Rīgas satiksme” became a member of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). The organization was founded in 1885 and it is the only association in the world that unites and represents all parties involved in the public transport sector and helps to develop all sustainable public transport solutions. One of the main tasks of the Brussels-based UITP is to monitor the development of the European Union (EU) legislation affecting the public transport sector and to provide advice both to member states and EU decision-makers.
